Meet Captain Matthew Derrenbacher

A retired Coast Guard Commander, Captain Matt has served on active duty on the East Coast, West Coast, Gulf Coast, and Alaska, and has the Order of the Magellan for circumnavigating the world on a Coast Guard Cutter.

Captain Matt is a Boating instructor, Charter captain, and Consultant.

On-Water Training

Powerboat On-Water Classes

These classes are for powerboats averaging between 18 to 26 feet. Training covers four powerboating classes (training modules) from the National Safe Boating Council's on-water training curriculum. Earn your NSBC Certification by passing all four training modules. A nationally recognized NSBC certification that you can show to your insurance company to demonstrate your competency, and potentially get approved for insurance and/or reduce your insurance premium.

On-Water Refresher Class

This powerboating class is for individuals who have experience on the water but may want to enhance their safety training and boating skills in a specific area. This class offers flexibility for what set of skills they want to learn during the course.

Yachting On-Water Classes

These classes are on water yacht training (Yachts up to 60ft ). We offer three nationally recognized courses that you can earn your certification in: Basic Powerboat Cruising, Inshore Powerboat Cruising, and Night Operations. You can show your certification to insurance companies to demonstrate your competency and potentially get approved for insurance and/or reduce your insurance premiums. You can also apply to receive an International Proficiency Certificate (IPC) to be pre approved to rent/operate Yachts abroad for successfully completing the course requirements.
